Consequences

There's not far to fall from this tree

And the angry mob is gathering round

It's not the future that we'd like to see,

But someday we will all hit the ground

And if we hit it running we will know

Soon enough if there is somewhere we can go

To get away from our "inner self"

Where we can put our past up on a shelf

And bring it down in nostalgic times

Glossing over all our careless crimes

And the kids will hide their heads in shame

And wonder how we got to be so lame.

I'm wishing for a life without the consequences, what would you pay for that?

I'm talking about choice without the consequences, what would you pay for that?

Regret leaves such a bitter taste.

I'd rather go back to the alcohol.

For some moments I can cut and paste.

Don't have to look before I take the fall.

And all the people that I've met and known,

All the objects that I've come to own.

All the decisions that seemed wise at the time,

Not so important at the end of the line
