My First Time! formed in São Paulo in 2004, with Gabriel Dias on vocals and guitar, Rodrigo Dantas on bass, and Felipe Dias on drums. They started playing indie rock with some Brazilian samba mixed in, which didn't fit easily into existing categories at the time.
Their debut album 'A Gente Ri Alto' came out in 2008 and got some positive attention. But it was the 2011 single 'Hoje Não' that really connected with people. The song's straightforward lyrics about heartbreak and its catchy rhythm made it something people kept coming back to.
In 2016, there was some talk about whether they'd borrowed too much from a Pulp song, though the band said they hadn't. They kept making music after that, but 'Hoje Não' remained what most people knew them for.
