Archive material and source history
Myrkvid formed in Kongsvinger, Norway in 2003. The band's early lineup included Garm on vocals, Lars Fredrik Frøislie and Morten Bergeton Iversen on guitars, Erlend Hjelvik on bass, and Steinar Gundersen on drums. They put out their self-titled debut album in 2006, followed by Ravnenes Saga in 2007.
Their 2008 album Hymne à la Destruction, featuring the title track and songs like L'Éternel Fléau, drew attention for its dark themes and blend of black metal with folk and ambient textures. The lyrics touched on nihilism and mortality, which stirred some debate at the time.
Myrkvid kept releasing albums over the next decade, including Kurbitz... The Red Death in 2010, Vanemøtet in 2012, Oppstandelsens kilde in 2015, and Gullalder in 2018. Their lineup shifted occasionally, with Lars Nedland also appearing among the members at some point.
