Myrna formed in São Paulo in 1981, with Ney Matogrosso on vocals and guitar, Jorge Mautner on keyboards, Lucio Maia on bass, and Zé Renatto on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out the next year, and the track "Bom Dia" turned into a national hit in 1983. It's still one of those songs people know.
They weren't shy about what they sang. Their lyrics touched on social and political issues, which got them some pushback. They kept at it anyway, putting out records like "Sonho Real" in 1985 and "Modernidades Primitivas" in 1993.
Later on, their sound picked up bits of jazz and funk, but they stayed a pop band at heart. Another album, "Nação Zumbi," landed in 1999. Matogrosso stuck around through the years, while other members shifted. They also worked with a few other artists, though the details there are thin.
