Tenía que venir a dar las gracias a los descamisados que han querido honrarme con la más alta distinción que pueda otorgarse a un peronista. Yo no diré la mentira acostumbrada. Yo no diré que no la merezco. La merezco porque todo lo hice por amor a este pueblo. Yo no valgo por lo que soy. Yo no valgo por lo que he renunciado. Yo sólo valgo por el amor de este pueblo. Muy temprano en la vida dejé mi hogar y desde entonces he sido libre. He querido vivir por mi cuenta y he vivido por mi cuenta. Me gusta la libertad y en eso, como en ninguna otra cosa, me reconozco pueblo. Descamisados míos, yo no sé, yo no sé como pagar el cariño que me tienen. Espero volver pronto a la lucha pero si no volviera, no lo olviden: Ustedes son los puros! Todo es ustedes! Ustedes son la Patria!
