Nacho Cano was born in Madrid in 1953 and studied piano and guitar early on. He co-founded the Spanish synth-pop group Mecano in 1981 with his brother José María and singer Ana Torroja.

As Mecano's main songwriter, Cano handled much of the production and arrangement work. The band broke up in 1992, after which he started releasing solo material. His own songs include 'Sube, Sube' and 'Working Girl'.
