A Spanish electronic duo that blended trip-hop with avant-garde elements in the early 2000s.
For a quick sense of their sound, try 'I Wish The Cat Could Talk' or 'I have no blood'. Both have that signature blend of electronic atmosphere and something more grounded.
Najwajean's music arrived when Spanish electronic scenes were finding their own voices, and their mix of textures felt genuinely different. Songs like 'I Wish The Cat Could Talk' show how they could be both atmospheric and oddly direct. They didn't sound like anyone else coming out of Madrid at the time.
The group formed in Madrid in 1998 around vocalist Najwa Nimri and producer Carlos Jean. Their debut 'No Blood' arrived in 2001, followed by albums like 'Wet Paint' and 'Tarántula' over the next few years.
