Namadingo formed in 2006 in Mzuzu, Malawi, when Martin Nkhata and Isaac Chimwala started playing together. They were influenced by Malawian musicians like Lucius Banda and Black Missionaries, and built their sound from local events and festivals.
Their song 'Pafekiti' came out in 2012 and became popular across Malawi. It's one of the tracks people still know them for, along with 'Maury.' The band toured in Africa, Europe, and Asia, and worked with artists including Oliver Mtukudzi and Tiken Jah Fakoly.
In 2017, there was a legal dispute over who owned 'Pafekiti,' which brought up questions about music rights. Namadingo kept recording after that, but the case was part of how their career unfolded.
