Nando Chá formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1999, led by singer and percussionist Fernando Chagas. The original lineup included Valmir Ribeiro on bass, Juvaldo Gomes on guitar, and Carlinhos dos Santos on drums.
In 2004, the band released "Abecedário," a playful song about the Portuguese alphabet that became a Carnival anthem. Other songs like "Mensagem" and "Frevo Lição" also became part of their catalog.
They released several albums including "Carnaval, Folia e Alegria" in 2004 and "Nando Chá 20 Anos" in 2019. Their music drew from Bahian rhythms and became associated with Carnival celebrations in Salvador.
