Nando Dorea o Xote Bom do Nordeste

Nando Dorea came from Caicó in Rio Grande do Norte, where he started playing accordion early on, absorbing the traditional forró sounds of his region. He eventually formed his own group called O Xote Bom do Nordeste. In the 1970s, he worked with the well-known forró musician Luiz Gonzaga on some recordings, which helped bring more attention to his music.

His song "Canto de Sossego" came out in 1974 and became one of his most recognized pieces. Other tracks like "Margens do Sertão" and "A Criação É De Deus" show his approach to forró, which sometimes drew criticism from traditionalists in the late 1970s for incorporating what they saw as modern touches. He kept recording through the 1980s and 1990s with albums like "Forró de Luxo" and "Na Base do Xote."

Over time, different musicians passed through O Xote Bom do Nordeste, including Zezé Macedo on zabumba and Erivaldo Silva on triangle. Dorea remained the constant presence in the band, playing and singing songs that stayed rooted in northeastern Brazilian styles even as he occasionally adjusted the arrangements.
