Não Recomendados formed in Salvador, Brazil in the early 1990s, with Ricardo Almeida as their frontman. Their name translates to "Not Recommended," which gives you a sense of their approach. They put out four studio albums, starting with their 1994 debut "Baile." The title track from that record became something of an anthem, touching on social inequality and police brutality.

Their sound wasn't easy to pin down. They mixed punk, funk, and reggae in a way that felt raw and confrontational.

The band's core lineup included Almeida on vocals, guitar, and bass, with Marcelo D2 on drums. In 1997, bassist and co-founder Rodrigo Amparo died in a car accident. After that, they kept performing and touring internationally, but less frequently.
