Nara Gil started singing in local bars and festivals in Rio de Janeiro in the mid-1960s. She gained national recognition around that time with her collaboration on the song "Preciso de Você" with Gilberto Gil.
Her music drew from bossa nova roots but also incorporated samba, folk, and jazz elements. She worked with artists like Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque, and released albums including "Violeta de Outono," "Nara," and "Gil e Nara."
She continued using her music for social and political commentary despite these challenges.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
