Natacha Atlas

Natacha Atlas grew up in Brussels with an Egyptian father and Belgian mother, which gave her early exposure to both Arabic music and Western pop. In the early 1990s, she joined Transglobal Underground, a band that mixed electronic dance music with Middle Eastern rhythms. Her vocals became a recognizable part of their sound.

After leaving the group, she released her first solo album "Diaspora" in 1995. She followed it with records like "Halim" and "Something Dangerous." Songs like "Mon Amie La Rose" and "Leysh NatArak" show how she moves between Arabic melodies and Western instrumentation without settling into one category.

Her music draws from Egyptian, Moroccan, and Algerian dialects, and she has worked with musicians including oud player Gamal Al-Masri and clarinetist Bassam Saba. She doesn't stick to one tradition, but the mix feels organic rather than forced.
