Nathan Duarte grew up in Petrolina, Pernambuco, where he listened to bossa nova and MPB. He took cues from Vinicius de Moraes and Antônio Carlos Jobim, though he didn't start with grand ambitions. His first album, 'Amor ou Razão', came out in 2015. The title track caught on, a ballad about choosing between love and logic that people found easy to relate to.
Later records like 'Respeita o Meu Tempo' and 'Voo Livre' added jazz and electronic touches to his sound. He also put out songs like 'Toma e Pede' and 'Cavalo Arredio', which kept to his style of straightforward, melodic writing. The tabloids sometimes followed his personal life, and a few critics called his love songs formulaic, but he kept recording.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
