Natuv formed in 1994 on São Miguel in the Azores, started by four friends: Rui Luís, Luís Seabra, Pedro Silva, and Paulo Soares. Their name comes from the Portuguese word for 'native,' which fits their connection to the islands. They put out their first album, simply called 'Nativ,' in 1997.
Their sound mixed traditional Portuguese folk with pop, which drew some criticism early on. They kept playing locally and gradually built an audience. The 2007 album 'Vem Morar Na Ilha' gave them their best-known song, the title track 'Vem Morar Na Ilha.'
