Background notes

Archive material and source history

Nausea formed in Osaka, Japan in the late 1980s, with Yasuyuki Kobayashi on vocals, Naoto Tanihara on bass, Masaaki Nakagawa on guitar, and Kazuhiro Mori on drums. They released their debut album 'Wormed Mind' in 1989, followed by 'Nightmare' in 1991 and 'Extremity' in 1996. Their 1993 album 'Heavy Metal Holocaust' was a collaboration with Carcass.

Their music combined grindcore with elements of death metal and industrial sounds. Songs like 'Cybergod' from the 'Extremity' album explored themes of technological alienation, while tracks such as 'Johnny Got His Gun' and 'Body Of Christ' reflected their confrontational lyrical approach.

Nausea's final album was 'Dominance and Submission' in 1999. Their uncompromising sound and stage presence drew both dedicated fans and criticism during their active years.
