Editor's note

NCT U, the shape-shifting K-pop unit

A rotating lineup project from SM Entertainment that adapts members and sounds to fit each single.

For the unit's core idea, listen to 'The 7th Sense'. For its range, check the contrast between 'Volcano' and 'Music, Dance'.

NCT U introduced the whole NCT concept with their debut single 'The 7th Sense (일곱 번째 감각)' in 2016. The unit's purpose is right there in the name: the 'U' stands for 'United', assembling different NCT members for each release. You can hear that flexibility in tracks like the moody 'Volcano' and the brighter 'Dancing In The Rain', which feel like different groups entirely.

The project started as the first public glimpse of SM's ambitious NCT system. Since then, it has served as a testing ground and showcase, releasing singles like 'Universe (Let's Play Ball)' and 'Good Night' with various member combinations.
