Necrotica

Necrotica formed in 1987 with vocalist Kayfabe, guitarist Mordred, bassist Erebos, and drummer Typhon. They came up in the death metal scene of the late 1980s, playing music that leaned into the macabre and occult. Their debut album was called 'From Hell', which also gave its name to one of their songs.

That early material, like 'Murder Is Here' and 'Satanic Blast', had a raw, aggressive sound built on guttural vocals and fast guitar work. They put out other albums too, including 'Blood on Black' and 'The Black Plague', which showed them pulling in bits of thrash and doom metal as they went along.

Kayfabe handled most of the lyrics and fronted the band with a theatrical style that sometimes drew criticism. The lineup stayed pretty steady for a while, with Mordred on guitar and Erebos on bass holding down the instrumental side. They kept at it through the 1990s, playing to audiences that were either into their thing or not at all.
