Their music pulled from samba, funk, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, creating a sound that felt both grounded and forward-moving.
In 1982 they released the album 'Inspiração,' which included the title track that became one of their most recognizable songs. Other tracks like 'Num Estragou Nada' and 'Vives Em Mim' showed their ability to weave social observation into danceable grooves. Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism in the 1980s for being outspoken about Afro-Brazilian themes.
They kept recording through that decade, putting out albums like 'Aqui Estamos' in 1985 and 'Raça Brasil' in 1988. In 1997 they collaborated with Earth, Wind & Fire on the album 'Afro Samba,' which brought their sound to a wider international audience.
