Negroavapor formed in São Paulo in 2014 with Wladimir Carpes on lead vocals and bass, Thiago Silva on guitar and vocals, Douglas Abreu on drums, and Bruno Pacheco on saxophone. Their name translates to 'black steam,' which they've said reflects the energy of Brazil's marginalized communities.
Their debut EP 'Água' came out in 2016, followed by 'Sol' in 2018, 'Bem-Ti-Vi' in 2019, and the album 'Negrura' in 2020. They put out a live album called 'Bem:live' in 2021. Songs like 'Liberta jah' and 'O Brilho do Amanhecer' show their mix of soul, funk, and Brazilian rhythms.
Their lyrics often touch on social issues, which has drawn some criticism from conservative groups. They've kept at it though, with songs like 'Alvo à Vida' and 'Semelhantes' continuing in that vein.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
