Nellansay formed in Dublin in the mid-1980s with brothers Ray and Joe Martin and their cousin Michael Nolan. They started playing live shows around that time, developing a sound that mixed Celtic folk with art-rock. Their 1993 album 'The Burning Eye' got some attention, and they followed it with records like 'All Is Well' in 1995 and 'Tides' in 1998.
Their song 'Sally Sunshine' came out in 1993 and became their most recognizable track. Other songs in their catalog include 'The Most Beautiful Thing I Have Ever Seen,' 'A Fistful of Penii,' and 'An Ode To a Cunt.' The band's lineup included drummer Noel Kavanagh until 1999, when John 'Spud' Murphy took over on drums.
