Neo Spleen formed in London in the late 1990s around frontman Spleen, with guitarist Echo, bassist Umbra, and drummer Threnody. Their sound drew from goth, post-punk, and industrial music, and they built a cult following in the city's underground scene.
In 2002, they released the single "Spleen," a haunting ballad that became their most recognizable track. The song's cryptic lyrics about existential angst and societal decay connected with listeners in the post-millennial years.
They put out two more albums, "Nocturnes" in 2004 and "Obsidian" in 2007, which were noted for their originality and emotional intensity. The band dissolved after a difficult tour in 2009, when the other three members left, leaving Spleen as the only original member.
