New Jordal Swingers formed in Oslo in 1963, with Ivar Simastuen on vocals. They became known for energetic live shows and straightforward pop tunes. Their song 'Let's Have A Party' came from working with Norwegian songwriter Arne Bendiksen, and its simple, catchy rhythm made it a hit.
The band recorded several albums in the mid-1960s, including 'New Jordal Swingers' in 1964 and 'Let's Have A Party' in 1966. Their lineup included Ivar Thorstensen on guitar, Gunnar Andresen on drums, Tor Egil Johansen on bass, and Eigil Berg on organ.
Later years brought some difficulties. Their decision to perform in apartheid South Africa drew criticism, and Simastuen had personal struggles with drug addiction and legal problems. These issues affected the band's reputation during what had been their most successful period.
