Juice Newton

Juice Newton was born Judith Kaye Newton in Lakehurst, New Jersey. She started out as a folk singer in the late 1960s and moved to Los Angeles, where Capitol Records signed her in 1975. Her self-titled debut came out in 1977, but it was the 1979 album 'After Dark' that really broke through. That record included her version of 'Angel Of The Morning,' a song originally done by Merrilee Rush in 1968. Newton's take turned it into a country-pop hit that reached the Top 10 on both the Billboard Top 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.

In the 1980s she put out albums like 'Quiet Lies' in 1982, 'Can't Wait All Night' in 1984, and 'Emotion' in 1986. Songs like 'Queen Of Hearts' kept her on the radio. Later in the decade, as musical tastes shifted, her commercial momentum slowed.

Newton filed for divorce from her husband Ozzie Newton in 1989 after 14 years of marriage. She entered rehab for substance abuse in 1995 and has stayed sober since. In more recent years she released albums such as 'Sweet, Sweet Smile' in 2009 and a compilation called 'The Very Best of Juice Newton' in 2016.
