Ney Matogrosso and Renato Teixeira began working together in 1974. Their 1976 self-titled album and 1979's 'Urubu e Morena' established them as a duo with a distinct approach to Brazilian music.
Their 1981 song 'Me Bloqueou No Face' drew attention for its directness, though the political climate of the time made such work complicated. They wrote about personal and social matters without much separation between the two.
Ney's vocal delivery and Renato's guitar work created a sound that pulled from folk and samba without settling into a single category. They kept recording through the 1980s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
