Ney Matogrosso was born Milton Pereira Matogrosso in 1941 in Rio de Janeiro. In the late 1960s, he co-founded the psychedelic rock band Os Mutantes, which gained some international recognition for its experimental sound.
After leaving Os Mutantes in 1972, he began a solo career. His 1975 debut album featured 'Melô de Rosa,' a haunting ballad that became something of a national anthem in Brazil. Other songs from that period include 'Se Decida (My Love)' and 'Agonia.'
He continued performing and recording through the 1970s and beyond, working across rock and samba styles.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
