Nidj formed in Jakarta in 2002 with Giring Ganesha on vocals, Andika Putra and Ariel Harsya on guitars, Ramadhista Akbar on bass, and Randy Danistha on drums. Their debut album 'Breakthru' came out the following year, and its single 'Hapus Aku' became a hit in Indonesia.
They released more albums like 'Selamanya' in 2005 and 'Top Up' in 2007. Some of their songs include 'Going Down' and 'Lily'.
In 2006, the band was involved in a copyright dispute over their song 'Laskar Pelangi,' which they eventually won. By 2012, they were dealing with internal tensions that affected the group.
