Nihilistikrypt

Nihilistikrypt came out of the Swedish underground with a particularly harsh take on extreme metal. Their 2007 self-titled debut set the tone with raw, abrasive vocals and distorted guitars. The band's lyrics often dealt with themes of suffering and nihilism, which you can hear on tracks like 'I Hate Everything' and 'The Summoning'.

They released several albums in quick succession, including 'Neogenesis' in 2009 and 'Glacial Torture' in 2011. Each record seemed to push their sound further into atmospheric or aggressive territory. The 2013 album 'Brainbow', which shares its name with one of their most well-known songs, is often mentioned as a high point in their discography.

Their dark aesthetic and provocative subject matter drew criticism from some corners, with accusations that the music glorified violence. The band members, who used pseudonyms like Xolotl on vocals and Revenant on guitar, generally kept to themselves and let the music speak for itself.

After 'Brainbow', their output slowed, but songs like 'Expired' and 'Virus: Human' continued to find listeners drawn to that particular brand of Swedish extremity.
