Niila formed in Helsinki around 2014, when vocalist Saga Backlund and guitarist Kalle Mäkinen started working together. They later added bassist Tuomas Kankkunen and drummer Matias Lindström. Their early demos had a dreamy pop feel, and they put out a debut EP called 'In Between' in 2016.
The band's song 'New Love' came out in 2018 and got a lot of attention, helping them reach listeners outside Finland. They've released two albums so far: 'North' in 2019 and 'East' in 2021. Other songs like 'Better Off' and 'Fireflies' are part of their catalog.
In 2019, there were some plagiarism accusations about a track called 'Midnight Sun,' which the band denied. That's about as much as there is to say for now.
