Nika came out of Mexico City in the 1990s, playing a mix of rock and ska with some traditional Mexican rhythms. Their debut album was called '¿Quien Dijo Que Era El Fin?', which became a hit and gave the band its first real audience. Songs like 'Desde Madrid' and 'Después' show what they were doing at the time, energetic, guitar-driven music with lyrics that connected with younger listeners.

Diego Suárez sang lead, with Luis Fernando Huerta on guitar, Miguel Luna on bass, Ricardo Moreno on drums, and Sergio Flores on percussion. They put out a few more records after that first one, including 'Nika en Vivo' and 'El Gran Show'. The sound kept that same basic blend, never really settling into one pure genre.

Some critics early on didn't know what to make of the mix, but the band kept at it. They weren't trying to start a revolution, just playing the music they wanted to play. You can hear it in tracks like 'Don´t Wanna Be Alone Tonight' or 'En Mi Selva', which have that same straightforward, unpolished feel.
