Archive material and source history

Nine Sons of Dan formed in Bristol in the early 2000s, led by Samuel Dan. Their debut album 'The Road and the Radio' came out in 2007, followed by 'Cities' in 2010. The title track from that second album became one of their better-known songs, along with 'Landslide' and 'She's So Fine'.

Over time the lineup shifted around Dan, with guitarist Nick Skinner, bassist Andy Williamson, and drummer Ben Davies among those who played in the band. They took a break after some legal trouble with a former label around 2012.

When they returned, their sound had changed a bit from the indie-folk feel of those first records. They kept writing and recording, but never quite recaptured the attention those early albums got.
