Nirvana

Nirvana formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987 when Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic started playing together. They went through several drummers before Dave Grohl joined in 1990. Their early material like 'About a Girl' and 'Mr. Moustache' showed the raw, melodic tension that would define their sound.

In 1991, their album Nevermind unexpectedly became a commercial phenomenon, largely driven by the single 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.' The record's success pushed the band's abrasive yet accessible style into mainstream consciousness, with songs like 'Aneurysm' and 'Endless, Nameless' capturing their volatile energy. Their follow-up In Utero in 1993 maintained that intensity with tracks like 'You Know You're Right' and their cover of 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night.'

Cobain's struggles with fame and personal issues became increasingly public as the band's popularity grew. He died by suicide in 1994 at age 27, ending Nirvana's brief but influential run. The band's three studio albums, Bleach, Nevermind, and In Utero, continue to resonate with their particular blend of melody and noise.
