Nito Landau formed in Lisbon in the early 1980s, with António Luís Landau on vocals, Carlos "Kaló" Ferreira on guitar, Rui Maia on bass, and Nuno Rodrigues on drums. Their debut album "Já Era" came out in 1987, which included the song of the same name that became one of their most recognizable tracks. They followed it with albums like "Acústica" in 2000 and "Pelos Tempos" in 2017.
In 1991, guitarist Carlos "Kaló" Ferreira died, which was a difficult moment for the band. They kept working after that, though, and kept putting out music. Other songs like "Mais Valeria" and "Minha Fé Ta Na Alta" show up in their catalog.
Their lyrics sometimes dealt with social issues and personal struggles, which drew some criticism from conservative listeners at the time. But they kept at it, and their music found an audience that connected with those themes.
