Nitrato formed in Brasília in 2007. The band includes Tico Santa Cruz on vocals and guitar, Bruno Gouveia on bass, Cristiano Pinheiro on guitar, and Denis Pena on drums.
Their first album, Fazer o Tempo Voltar, came out in 2010 and includes the song of the same name. They followed it with Semelhante in 2013, Através do Tempo in 2016, and Virada in 2019.
In 2012, the band faced some backlash for supporting former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.
