Nitroh formed in Brasília in 1992 with João Ricardo on vocals, Marco Antônio on guitar, Sérgio Melo on bass, and Fabio Carneiro on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1994 and found an audience quickly, partly thanks to the song "Inconsciente inconsequente." That track became something of an anthem, though it also drew criticism for its lyrics.
In 1998, the band faced a legal challenge from Brazilian authorities over "Inconsciente inconsequente," which was accused of promoting drug use and violence. Nitroh won the case, but the episode stuck to their reputation. They kept recording through the late '90s and 2000s, putting out albums like "Paranóia Astral," "Karmática," and "Sagitário."
