Archive material and source history

No Gas formed in São Paulo in 1996. Their debut album came out in 1998, featuring the track 'A Premiação' that became widely known in Brazil. The band's sound pulled from punk, reggae, and funk, and they released four studio albums through 2005.

Dudu Marote sang and played guitar, with Mauro Moto on bass, Marcelo Maldonado on drums, and Kiko Pissolato on guitar in the original lineup. Marote was the only constant member through various changes. Another song people remember is 'Iguais'.

Their lyrics often addressed social issues, which sometimes brought them into conflict with conservative groups. They kept making music that spoke to a generation of Brazilian youth without smoothing over those edges.
