No Te Va Gustar formed in Montevideo in 1994, starting with Emiliano Brancciari on vocals and guitar, Mateo Moreno on guitar, Gonzalo Castex on bass, Pablo Abdala on drums, and Martín Gil on keyboards. Their second album, "Por lo Menos Hoy" from 1999, brought them wider attention in Uruguay with songs like "Clara." The band's sound has shifted over time, pulling in bits of hip-hop, reggae, and cumbia alongside their rock foundation.
In 2006, bassist Gonzalo Castex died, a loss the band marked with the song "Tafí del Valle." They kept recording and touring, with later albums including "Artefacto" in 2017 and "Luz" in 2019.
Songs like "A Las Nueve" and "Chau" have become staples for the group, which now includes Denis Ramos on bass. They've played across Latin America and Europe, building a steady following without much flash or manufactured drama.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
