He had already established himself through his work on the Final Fantasy series, where pieces like 'Liberi Fatali' and 'Advent: One-Winged Angel' became recognizable parts of the games' atmosphere.
Born in Kushiro, Hokkaido in 1959, Uematsu joined Square Enix (then Squaresoft) in 1985. His music for Final Fantasy VI helped define the series' sound, and he continued with later titles including Final Fantasy VIII's 'Eyes on Me' and Final Fantasy X's 'Suteki Da Ne'.
