Nona Reeves is a Japanese psychedelic soul band that formed in 2002, led by vocalist Nakako Takahashi. Their debut single "Mind" came out in 2003. The group's sound mixes psychedelic melodies with soulful vocals, and they've worked with collaborators like You The Rock on tracks such as "Changin' (feat. You The Rock)" and "Galileo Girl."
In 2006, their third album "Pyramid" faced legal issues with Japanese authorities, who found it too provocative, forcing a recall and some song rewrites. They followed that with 2009's "Invisible Man," which included the single "Changin' (feat. You The Rock)" and brought them wider attention. Their lyrics often touch on social themes like inequality and mental health.
Their 2022 album "Zenith" shows them incorporating funk, jazz, and traditional Japanese elements into their music. They continue to operate from Tokyo's Shibuya area, where they started.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
