Nonato formed in Salvador, Bahia in the late 1970s with three members: lead vocalist and guitarist Nonato Rios, drummer Dudu Gonzaga, and bassist Beto Coruja. They started playing small bars and local festivals before producer Tom Capone brought them to Rio de Janeiro in 1982.
Their 1983 debut album included "O Tempo Fez Você Mudar," which became their most recognizable song. The band released several albums through the mid-1980s, including "O Melhor de Nonato" in 1984 and "Sentimentos" in 1985.
