Norte Cartel formed in Monterrey, Mexico in 2011, started by brothers Lorenzo Mendez and Mario Martinez. Their early years were lean, but they built a following with regional Mexican music that mixed traditional corridos with more contemporary sounds. Their debut album 'Intocable' came out in 2013, followed by 'Entre Dias' in 2014 and 'Hasta La Muerte' in 2016.
Things shifted with the 2017 release of 'De Sul Ao Norte,' which became a hit well beyond Mexico. The song's title track, along with others like 'O Inferno e o Céu' and 'A Vingança É Minha,' helped define their sound. The band includes Lorenzo Mendez on vocals, Mario Martinez on bass, Hernan Trevino on accordion, and Ricardo Trevino on drums.
They've worked with other artists in the genre, including Banda MS and El Komander. Some of their lyrics have drawn attention for their directness, but they've also touched on social themes in songs like 'Abrigo.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
