Not Advised formed in Los Angeles in the early 2000s around vocalist Nico Gori and guitarist Anthony Frattini. Their 2006 debut album, 'A Red Light Situation,' gave the band its first real foothold. The title track from that record became something of an anthem for their listeners, a mix of alt-rock and punk energy that felt raw and direct.
They kept at it, putting out albums like 'The Weightless' in 2008 and 'Departure' in 2012. Songs like 'Jane Says Left' and 'The World's Not Ready' showed a band that wasn't interested in smoothing out its edges. Their live shows developed a reputation for being high-energy and a little confrontational, which suited the music.
Over time, the lineup settled with Mark Mather on bass and Max Miller on drums. They released 'The Bright Side' in 2016, another collection of songs that played to their strengths without much compromise. The music was always more about a certain feeling than fitting into a scene, and that's what their fans connected with.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
