Bonde do Tigrão came out of Rio de Janeiro in the early 2000s. The group was led by MCs Fabio and Pedro, with DJ Seco, Magrão on percussion, and Léo on saxophone. Their debut album 'Salve' arrived in 2003, and its title track 'Bonde do Tigrão' became a street anthem with its heavy bass and chanted vocals.
Their sound mixed Jamaican dancehall rhythms with Brazilian funk and samba. This got them attention, but their explicit lyrics and performances also drew criticism from conservatives and censors.
They kept releasing albums through the 2000s and into the 2010s, including 'Arrastão' in 2005, 'O Baile das Minas' in 2007, and 'Transborda' in 2013. The group helped popularize dancehall music in Brazil.
