Novalis

Novalis was a German progressive rock band that formed in 1971, taking their name from the Romantic poet. They started when brothers Lutz and Heino Reinders, who had been in a group called Siddhartha, decided to begin a new project. Their sound incorporated elements from classical music and jazz alongside the rock of their era.

Their 1975 album 'Alle Wollen Leben' brought them wider attention, with the title track becoming one of their better-known songs. They followed it with records like 'Banished Bridge' and 'Brandung', and tracks such as 'Irgendwo - Irgendwann' and 'Astralis' showed their interest in melodic arrangements and poetic lyrics. The band toured Europe during this period.

Novalis went through several lineup changes over time, with members like keyboardist Karl-Heinz Becker and vocalist Jutta Weinhold joining at different points. They were sometimes grouped with the broader German experimental rock scene of the 1970s. The band continued releasing music into the 1980s and 1990s before ending their activity around 2010.
