Novanguarda formed in the early 1990s with Nando Reis, Marcelo Fromer, and Paulo Miklos, who had previously worked together in Titãs. Their debut album 'Contra o Mundo' came out in 1996, mixing post-punk with Brazilian rhythms. Songs like 'Consciênte' and 'A Rosa' show their approach.
Their lyrics sometimes touched on social issues and personal themes, which drew attention in Brazil. The band kept playing live with a loose, energetic style. They released 'Consciência' in 1998 and 'Cabeça Dinossauro' in 2002.
Other members included Fernando Penteado on guitar and Antonio Loureiro on keyboards. Tracks such as 'Amanhã Já Se Foi' and 'Dentro de mim' appear in their catalog. Their music has been used in Brazilian films and TV shows.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
