Aptitude

I present some sober advice,

from a life of learning the hard way

I too, once was niave,

with my heart draped on my sleeve.

Many would attest to aim for the stars,

and then if you fail, at least you're among them.

But I disagree,

we are capped by our abilities.

And I harbor a thought of a different kind,

don't go setting your sights too high,

you can't dispute aptitude.

It is taught from the cradle on up

that anyone, can become anything.

Well if that's true, those not at the top

would have little excuse.

Why go wasting your time on things unattainable.

I gave her all that she ever could want,

yeah I tried and I tried

so many years to keep hanging on,

but then she knew it,

she saw through it,

she abused it.

Like I have wasted good time on things unattainable.

Face the facts a good attitude can make you more capable,

so leave faith to the men of the cloth and others more gullible.
