NS10

NS10 came together in the Complexo da Maré neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro in the 1990s, with MC Galo, MC Luizin, MC Smith, and DJ Marlboro forming the group. They worked in the funk carioca style that was developing in the city's favelas at the time.

Their song "É Geral" became a local anthem, capturing something about daily life in those neighborhoods. Other tracks like "Demorô" and "Essa Batida" followed a similar path, built around DJ Marlboro's rhythms and the MCs' traded verses.

Their lyrics sometimes addressed social conditions directly enough that certain stations wouldn't play them. The group kept recording anyway, putting out albums like "Nosso Som" and "Nação Zumbi" that mixed funk with samba and hip-hop touches.

They were active through the 1990s and into the 2000s, with songs like "Êxtase" and "Na pele, Na alma" showing their range within the funk framework. The music held a specific place in Rio's sound during those years.
