Nytt Land was a Norwegian folk band that formed in 1976. They came together in the village of Lom, with members including Kari Bremnes on vocals, Øystein Sunde and Lillebjørn Nilsen on guitars and vocals, Bjørn Kjellemyr on accordion, Per Vestaby on nyckelharpa, and Knut Reiersrud on Hardanger fiddle. Their first album, also called 'Nytt Land,' came out that same year.
Their song 'Ask Veit Ek Standa' became particularly well-known. It appeared on that debut record and drew from older Norwegian folk tales. They followed that album with 'Himmelvarden' in 1978, 'Folk og røvere' in 1981, 'Trolldom' in 1984, and 'Ramme' in 1987.
Some of their later work included social commentary that stirred debate. The band stopped recording together in 1989.
