O Ar do Vilarejo formed in the town of Vilarejo, with Celso Machado on vocals, André Prando on guitar, Gerson Albuquerque on bass, and João Marcos on percussion. Their debut album 'De Nós' came out in 2006, and the title track became one of their better-known songs.
They worked within Brazilian folk traditions, with songs like 'O Homem e a Canoa' and 'Empoeirado Brinquedo de Corda' showing their style. The band's name itself became a song title on their self-titled track 'O Ar do Vilarejo'.
Their live shows drew crowds, and they released subsequent albums including 'O Caminho' and 'Raiz'. The music industry sometimes met their sound with skepticism early on, but they kept playing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
