O Avião da Minha Vida formed in 1998 in Ericeira, Portugal. The original lineup included lead vocalist André Castro, guitarist Rui Costa, bassist João Frederico, and drummer Pedro Meireles. Their name, which translates to 'The Airplane of My Life,' raised some eyebrows at first, but they built a following with straightforward pop songs.
In 2000, they released their debut album 'André Castro,' named after the singer. The title track became a national hit in Portugal, giving the band its first real success. They followed with albums like 'Aqui É Que É' in 2002 and 'Não Há Mais' in 2005, maintaining a steady presence through the 2000s.
The lineup changed over time. Pedro Meireles left in 2010, replaced by Ricardo Costa. João Frederico departed in 2013, with Luís Rocha taking over on bass. André Castro left the band in 2016 to work on solo material. After that, they continued with guest vocalists on albums like 'Mistérios do Coração' in 2018.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
